I like AOC. I wish I lived in her district, or we had a clone of her representing where I live now. But that ain't gonna happen. This has been MAGAlatchia long before there was MAGA. Little Boss Hogg towns and even cities like where I live are under the unelected governance of the local Chamber of Commerce. They serve as the Boards of Directors of the city councils. Now this may not be true universally, but it sure as hell is in Virginia. I'm pretty sure I'm the only DSA resident, non-college student in Southwest Virginia. I know this is true around the country, and as long as it is true, it is going to be hard for a democratic candiate, be it a DNC "made man" or one of us socialists, to get elected. So for now I think it isi vital we get past November with massive blue victories in the legislative side of our government in order to begin fixing the problems that will hold back an executive.
As to a 3rd party, that party needs to work its way up to national representation. While there is no mention of political parties in the constitution, it is a very long-held custom. The way to beat it is with local constituent service. Once we prove on city or county councils and school boards that we are going to represent the voters, not the business leaders, we'll be looked at like Snoopy was in 68. A funny write-in. This is how American Socialism, now known as democratic socialism, won 1,000 mayoral races, most in the Midwest and the West. We also had some East Coast Cities in a time when electoral corruption was a real problem. Remember how Edgar Alan Poe died? Now, DSA could take over the Democratic Party easily in most places. Just join a local Democratic Committee and volunteer to work as a delegate to a state nominating committee. Progressive or non-DNC Democrats are doing this very successfully. Since DSA is not a registered party with the FEC, why not?
Sorry for the wall of text, but please understand our history, and you will see it can be done, and has been done. But the Republicans and the on the take Democrats will lie and bend the history they will speak from "power." So we need to know the authentic history.
As to AOC, while it is far too early to pick a 28 candidate, I would support her if she chose to run.
